What Is On Page SEO?

What is on page SEO

Search engine optimisation (SEO) is about getting good rankings that will lead to good organic traffic from search engines. It should not be rushed, but the more often you update your website with new and fresh content, the more likely it is your website pages will move up the search engine rankings.

Your main focus should be to build a relationship with search engines by providing them with valuable content that they can understand and index quickly bringing traffic to your site. When building links, make sure there is diversity. Don’t keep linking to the same website all the time. External links are important for SEO, and to maximize on this, you should link to websites that are relevant to the topic of your website. As well as that, it’s a good idea to link to websites with a high domain authority. This will give you an advantage over your competitors.

Importance of SEO on Your Website

It is important to make sure your on-page SEO is done correctly. An example of lazy SEO could be when you add an image, but forget to include the image ALT tag. While Google will not penalise you for this, it is something that should be on your to-do list. For SEO, it is important to ensure that keywords are included on the website on a consistent basis but not to be overdone.

Adding New Pages To Your Website

As you add new pages to your website, it is important to make sure that you check your SEO on every newly added page. Don’t forget to include internal links within the content to other relevant pages on your website, which I talk about a bit more below. It is not only beneficial for SEO but it will also help with the Link Juice throughout all pages on your website.

When adding new pages, there are at least 5 things you need to consider for good SEO.

  1. The length of the content
  2. Adding images
  3. Title and Description Meta
  4. Internal Linking
  5. External Linking

Relevant Content Counts

It’s important that your content on your website be relevant, appealing and addresses the needs of your target audience. It is also important that it provides value to them by answering commonly asked questions. To generate organic traffic, you need to create content that people are interested in and provide it in the right format for your users.

Relevant content for webpages

Of course, after all this work there is one more thing that you should do – make sure that your website looks good on mobile devices. As more searches are conducted on mobile devices today than on desktop computers, it is important to make sure your website is mobile friendly.

Adding Images To Your Webpage

Images are good for websites. You should put at least one image on each page of your website. This will help the website rank higher in search engines.

Naming Your Images for SEO

You should name your images using keywords relevant to the content on the page. For example, if you page is about Plumbing in Maryland, you could name your image something like maryland-plumbing-services.jpg.

Adding ALT Attributes to Images for SEO

Over the past few years, the use of ALT text within image ATL tags has become increasingly popular, as it improves accessibility for those with visual impairments. ALT text is used by screen reading technologies to create a verbal description of graphical content. This will help users who are blind or visually impaired to understand what is on their screen. To make this process even more effective, adding keyword focused image descriptions to the alt attribute can improve search engine optimization (SEO). Having good SEO can dramatically increase traffic and revenue generated from your website. Part of good SEO includes optimizing your images properly.

The <img> tag was introduced in HTML 2.0. It created a place where an image could be linked into the document. Google and other search engines use ALT text as part of the ranking factors in image search results.

If the ALT text is not descriptive or does not contain any relevant keywords, Google will choose not to display your image in search results. This is called “not providing useful alt text”.

For example, if you have a website about dog training and want to put a picture of your dog on the page, write this in the ALT text: “Dog training with Spot.” As we all know, search engines like useful relevant text that is in line with the content of the page.

Title and Description Meta Data

Although these are not at the top of the list, they probably should be because these are what Google and other search engines will display in the search results. Make sure that you use relevant keywords in your page title and description meta data.

You should always optimize the title tags by including relevant keywords. The best practice is to keep your title tag under 66 characters. This will make sure that it doesn’t get cut off at the end.

The major search engines treat title and meta description tags as important ranking factors when indexing your website pages. This is why it’s a good idea to make sure that your title tag is descriptive, but using the same keywords used in your page H1 title. Title tag and meta description tag are also used by screen readers and other accessibility technologies.

Make sure your meta description is well-written and easy to read. Include your main keyword near the start of it.

Internal Linking is Important

To enhance and improve the relevancy of your page content, use internal links throughout your website pages and posts and link to relevant pages on your website. Make sure that your internal links are text-based and not image based. This will help search engines with the relevancy of your content, as they can crawl through all of it faster.

If you want to create a new page or optimize an existing one you should use keyword research tools like the Google Adwords Keyword Planner. Use the information you get to plan what keywords to use for your internal links between pages.

SEO Page Silos

This is a type of linking structure on your website that puts pages of relevant topics into silos, and internal links your pages within those silos to get link juice flowing from the bottom of the silo to the top. The top page being your main landing page on the subject matter. This is definitely something work looking into if your website has a lot of pages of similar topics. I might go into more detail on page silos in another post, so keep an eye out for that in the near future.

External Links

Aim to build relationships with other websites in your niche so that you can link back to their content. This will give them the opportunity to link back to your website as well.

When SEO is done correctly, it will get you one step closer to a high ranking. However the most important part of your SEO campaign is off page SEO through link building . External links are important for your website’s search engine rankings and organic growth.

Linking to other websites can be looked at as a way of telling your readers and search engines that you are not the only one who agrees with the content you wrote. That it is a relevant topic on other high authority websites, thus showing that your content is factual.

Good Quality Backlinks

The more links you have coming into your website, and the higher quality they are, the better chance you will have of moving up in the search engine rankings. Remember that not all backlinks are created equal. The major search engines use many different ranking factors when deciding where to rank a website so you should focus on getting links from websites with a high domain authority.

Social Media As Part of Your SEO Strategy

Social media has become a powerful tool for marketing online. Social media platforms provide many different opportunities for users to connect with one another, share content and learn new things. This is why you should try to grow your social media channels as much as possible by optimizing them for SEO.

The first thing you need to do is fill out your social media profiles completely. Make sure that you add a description of the products and services that your business provides. Add links back to your website that people can click on such as “learn more” or “visit our site”. It helps if you upload pictures so people can see what you are talking about.

Tweets can now be posted from mobile devices and the more tweets you have, the better your chances of having high rankings on twitter. More content means more relevancy which in turn will help with search engine results placement. You can also optimize images by adding text to them as this can increase engagement for all social media platforms.

If you want to succeed in the search engine war, it’s important that your campaigns are consistent. A good way of doing this is by scheduling when you will publish content on your website and social media accounts.

Social Signals in SEO

In today’s world, social networks have a very important part of everyday life. You will find that there is an abundance of information on the web about search engine optimization for each of these channels. If you want to maximize your presence and grow your business online, then you should focus on promoting content across all major social media channels.

The first thing you need to do is make sure that your best pieces of content are published on all social media websites and networks. When posting this content, make sure it is optimized for any relevant keywords in order to add more overall value to the piece. You can also get likes and shares on each of these accounts in order to increase the overall exposure of your brand.

If you want to increase the traffic to your website, then you should post different articles on each social media channel. People will share these posts with their friends and family which can send more targeted traffic to your site.

Page Speed in SEO

Google has made a recent update that affects your page speed in search engine results. Today, Google will use the page load time as a ranking factor which means that you need to optimize your site to load pages faster if you want to see better search rankings.

The first step is to make sure that all images are optimized and compressed so they do not slow down the loading time. You will also need to make sure that all videos are optimized and compressed as well. Also, try to avoid using too many plugins on your website if you find they are slowing it down a lot.

If you want to have a good idea of how fast your site is working, Google provides speed testing tools to help you identify things that can be fixed to increase your overall page speed, thus, increasing your chances of ranking higher.

Following The Steps

If you follow these steps, and continue to optimize your website for SEO, then you should see an increase in organic traffic coming from the search engines. You can also look at your analytics data to see how people found your website and what they are doing on it. This will help you create a more efficient SEO strategy that is geared towards generating the most traffic for your website.**

Using The Right Keywords

Your main keywords should be directly relevant to what the content is about. So, lets say your content is about a bike accident lawyer in Virginia, you main keywords could be “Virginia Bike Accident Lawyer”. This would be in your URL, meta title, meta description, and your H1 heading. It would also be dotted 2 or 3 times within your content.

Lets that this blog post you are reading right now as an example. The post is about On Page SEO, which you can tell from the H1 title at the top of the page. It’s also in the URL and Meta data. Since there are many different things that make up SEO on a webpage, you will find a number of other keywords used throughout the article. Some of those keywords are things like Search Engines, Internal Links, Alt Text, Page Speed, Organic Traffic etc. All of these topics (keywords) are relevant to the main subject of the post and each has at least 1 or 2 paragraphs dedicated to them. This helps search engines like Google understand better what your page is about, ranking it accordingly when a keyword is searched for.

Practice Optimization

OK, this might sound a little obvious, but practice of optimizing your website pages is, well, good practice. Many people have great intentions of doing all the SEO necessary for the website pages and posts, but usually only do the minimum just to get by. If you are serious about ranking your website higher in the SERPs (Search Engine Results Page) then it’s important to practice SEO and ensure you do right for all the pages and blog posts on your website.
